Max and BuckyHi Bonnie Sue,

We got home late last night. Max and Bucky look great! They were glad to see
us but I could tell that they had a good time with you!

The following is one of my pictures of Bucky. I will send a couple and you
can pick. Thanks again for taking such good care of the boys. It meant so
much to us knowing that they were loved and taken care of so well!

Approximately one in eight people in the world lack access to a safe water supply.  Since we have clean drinking water where we live; why not make sure your fur kids have access to ENOUGH of this safe water supply this summer.  I am presently taking care of a group of fur kids, the first day I arrived at their home they had licked the bowl dry.  I gave them a second bowl, next day both bowls were empty.  I then left four bowls of fresh water for them.  The key is no matter how wonderful and caring you are as a parent of fur kids we need to remember to hydrate, hydrate, and hydrate our sweet fur kids this summer.  My philosophy is better too much then not enough!

I love that my client base is comprised of animal lovers, however what is a pet sitter to do with multiple animals in one home.   I have now instituted a new service charge effective June 14, 2010.  If you have more than three litter boxes I will be charging an addition $2.50 per box. Also if you have more than two dogs there will be an additional $2.50 charge per dog.

RINGWORM!  How many of you thought ringworm was caused from a worm in the bloodstream…I did!  Someday when I have the time between pet sitting and reading I may look up the origin of the name.  I do know that in the early 1900’s they were treating the condition with sulfur or iodine.

Ringworm effects about 20% of the  cats, dogs, sheep, cattle and yes humans population.  The fungi thrive on skin what is warm and moist, as my vet told me it is similar to Athletes Foot.

So next time you are told that your sweet fur kid or your two legged kid has ringworm you do not need to freek out, as I have in the past.

Can you believe it’s the middle of May.  Where has the time gone?  Most of us are thinking about summer vacation; a chance to get away and relax.   When you are making your vacation plans include thoughts of contacting your pet sitter to have them pencil in a time when you may need them.  If you wait too long your favorite furkid caregiver may not be available.  Most reputable companies will give you that option.

I am livid about the courts decision to overturn the ruling that it is not illegal to sell videos or photos of animals being tourtured or illegally killed.  What depraved individuals are in this world, thinking this is entertainment?  What kind of people enjoy such horrific acts of animal cruelty?  What kind of sick people try to make money off of such depravite?

Do you think for one minute if the abuse was directed towards humans that the courts would have overuled this decision.  No because humans can VOTE.

This is a setback for animal rights!

I believe all creatures big and small feel pain and have souls.  I wonder if our justices, in the 8-1 ruling have feeling for all creatures big and same?

Tiger Lily, Stargazer Lily, Asian Lilies, are beautiful and fragrant flowers, however they can be deadly to your cat.

My oldest daughter loves flowers and cats.  She or her husband normally buy a bunch of flowers each week as a treat to each other.  So last week Jessica innocently brought home a bouquet of lilies.

After a few days of enjoying the blooms, one of her cats started vomiting.  At that point Jessica notices that some of the flowers had been chewed on. Fiona, the cat, continued to vomit and appeared lethargic.  She was taken to the vet and this is when Jessica was told how toxic the Lily is.

The smallest amounts of a lily can be life threatening.  Within only a few hours of ingestion of the lily a cat may vomit, become lethargic and or develop a lack of appetite.  These signs continue and worsen as kidney damage progresses.  Without prompt and proper treatment by a veterinarian, the cat may develop kidney failure in a matter 36 to 72 hours.  As Jessica stated to me the toxians “ nuke” the kidneys.

The ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center is leading a nationwide campaign to warn cat owners about the dangers of the Easter lily and other variations in the lily family; however not everyone has heard the message.  Too much information is better than none, and so that is why I want you, my reader, to know.

I will keep you posted as to Fiona’s progress and hopefully her road to recovery.

Oct 5

It’s October and before you know it we will be hearing Christmas carols on the radio and in the department store.  Even though the retail world tries to rush us through another season in the hopes of us spending more money, we still  have to get through Halloween on October 31st.  Halloween can be fun, however it can also be scary for our furkids.

Think about it, every time the door bell rings and the children yell “trick or treat”, and that scary looking green monster with blood dripping down his mouth with outstretched hands for treats, or the growling goblin staring at our furkids at the door all this can be overwhelming.

If Halloween is a holiday you love enjoy it, however you may want to have the furkids in a room far from the action so that they are not upset.

You may also want to put a note on the door for the trick or treaters not to ring the door bell, just knock.  That could be easier on the four legged ones.

Remember if you have your own trick or treaters coming home with goodies, make sure the bags are put away and not left on the floor to be sniffed and eating by the furkids.  Candy and wrappers are not easy on their digestive systems.

My hope is that you and your have a safe and fun Halloween with happy non tramatized furkids.

Have you ever wondered why your furkid all of a sudden has a black scab under his/her chin or somewhere around their face.  For some reason eating or drinking out of plastic bowls can causes this abnormality.  Never mind does it look unsightly to you it is very uncomfortable for them.  So stop using the left over Dairy Cream container or the plastic bowls from the pet store, and switch to glass or metal.  See if you notice the difference in their complexion.

June is not suppose to be this hot!  We need to be more aware that the high temperatures we are experiencing  can be very dangerous for our four legged friends.  The most common hot weather hazards include heat stroke, dehydration and sunburn.   Plan  your long walks and strenuous exercise for the cooler times of the day, such as the morning or evening  hours.  If you are outdoors for extended periods of time, find a shady place for your furkids, and provide plenty of fresh, cool water. I have heard that you can even apply sunscreen.  Check with your veterinarian.

Fourth of July is coming up soon.  Remember that fireworks and other loud noises can frighten your furkids.   My husband and I try to stay home that night, with our furry ones so that they are not as frightened.
